Marine Biotech News 2013, Issue 2 (September 2013)

Published in News Written by Administrator
The second issue of a newsletter for Ireland’s marine biotechnology community and beyond was published on 2nd September 2013.

This newsletter is prepared at the National University of Ireland Galway by the Marine Biotechnology Research Coordination Unit. It is a community resource that provides information on the latest Marine Biotechnology publications and news as well as upcoming events in the field.

This initiative, funded by the Marine Institute, is a collaboration across the marine biotechnology research community on the island of Ireland.

On the 28th June 2013, The MG4U project is hosting a workshop on Marine Genomic Applications in Dublin, Ireland.

This international workshop is intended to specifically explore the current and future commercial opportunities for existing and new bio-science businesses in the field of marine environmental services through the application of the latest genomic based tools and developments.

The workshop will also consider what actions need to be taken at a national or European level that could help enable the faster commercial development of this new sector. Aligned with the EC’s strategy of smart specialisation in regions, the role of marine technology clusters in facilitating such developments will be explored.

Format: The workshop will contain a mix of presentations and break out sessions enabling fruitful discussions and exchanges. Participation will be limited to ensure optimal networking and exchange between participants.

Expected Participants: Leading Marine genomics researchers, competent authorities tasked with marine monitoring, development agencies and regional authorities, technology clusters and policy/decision makers.

Stakeholder workshop in Oxford (19-20 September)

Published in News Written by Administrator

MG4U consortium organises a workshop in Oxford !

With this stakeholder meeting we want to bring together leading scientists from the field of marine genomics with marine policy makers, to discuss how genetic information and analytical methods can contribute to a cost-efficient monitoring of marine ecosystems. The workshop will explore the potential of using genomics approaches for reducing biodiversity loss and maintaining ecosystem services. It will be a unique opportunity to establish direct interaction between scientists and representatives of marine policy bodies. The workshop is organized in conjunction with the 14th meeting of the Genomics Standards Consortium (GSC14).
